Greensboro, NC - Wake Forest's Kyle Sleeth Earns ACC Pitcher of the Week Honors while NC State's Colt Morton was named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week.
For Sleeth, it was the third time he earned the weekly honor having picked up the award on Feb. 17 and Feb. 24.
Sleeth, a junior right-handed hurler, is one win away from tying the NCAA record for consecutive victories. The Westminster, Colo., product picked up his 25th straight winning decision at North Carolina, allowing only one run in eight innings. Versus the Tar Heels, Sleeth allowed just one run on four hits with a season-high ten strikeouts and no walks, allowing just two North Carolina batters into scoring position after the first inning. Sleeth dropped his season ERA to 1.64 through 44 innings of work with 48 strikeouts and just seven walks.
Sleeth is scheduled to make his next start, an NCAA record-tying attempt, on Friday afternoon against Duke.
Morton, a junior catcher, went 7-for-15 with a double, three home runs and five RBIs in four games last week. The West Palm Beach, Fla., native hit all three home runs in NC State's doubleheader sweep of second-ranked Florida State on Saturday, March 22. Morton led the Wolfpack to their 16th consecutive win this season, the second-longest winning streak in school history. For the season, Morton is hitting .283 with eight doubles, nine home runs and 23 RBIs.
