The Wake Forest baseball team lost 10-4 at fifth-ranked Georgia Tech on Saturday night in Atlanta in front of 4,157 fans at Russ Chandler Stadium.
After scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, the Deacons committed three errors in the second inning that led to seven Yellow Jacket runs.
In the first, Adam Bourassa led off the game with a single down the left field line. Ryan Hubbard reached on a bunt single. After a wild pitch and a stolen base, Ryan Johnson dropped single into right field to score Bourassa. Jamie D'Antona picked up an RBI with a groundout that scored Hubbard.
The opportunity to score additional runs was wasted, as Wake Forest left the bases loaded in the first. That continued to be a theme for the Deacons who left nine runners on base for the night including seven in scoring position. In two games in Atlanta, Wake Forest has left 16 runners on base.
In the second inning, Georgia Tech took advantage of three Deacon errors and tallied seven runs. The big hit in the inning was a three-run, bases-clearing double by Jake Hall.
Wake Forest chipped away with a run in the third. Johnson led off with a double and two batters later, he scored on a Jeff Ruziecki double. In the fourth, Wake Forest got another run on an RBI single from Hubbard that scored Bourassa from second.
Seth Hill took the loss for the Deacons to slip to 2-4 on the year. He went 5.1 innings, surrendered nine runs, five earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts and two free passes.
Kirby Wedekind and Daniel Davidson pitched final 2 2/3 innings, combining for three strikeouts and just two hits.
Georgia Tech's Chris Goodman earned the win to improve to 6-1 on the year. Brian Burks tossed three effective innings for his fifth save.
Offensively, the Deacons were once again led by their top three hitters in the order - Bourassa, Hubbard and Johnson. Each had two hits in the game.
Wake Forest slides to 23-14 and 7-9 in the ACC. Georgia Tech improves to 31-7, 10-1 in the conference.
The Deacons and Jackets wrap up their weekend set on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Sophomore lefty Tim Morley gets the ball for Wake Forest.
