Women's Golf Moves Into Second After Second Round

Clemmons, N.C. - The 13th-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team shot an eight-over par 292 Saturday at the ACC Championship in Clemmons, N.C. The Deacons currently have a 40-over total of 608 (316-292) and trail top-ranked Duke by eight shots. The ACC Women's Golf Championship is being contested at Salem Glen Country Club.

The 54-hole event began Friday and ends Sunday. Salem Glen measures 6,348 yards and par is 71.

Senior Nuria Clau fired a two-under par 69 on Saturday to move into a first place tie at 146, four-over par. Sophomore Ashley Hoagland shot a second consecutive 75, to give her an eight-over total of 150 and is in fifth place. Senior Maria Beautell added a 72, one-over par for the Deacs, giving her a two day total of 156, 12-over for the championship. She is in a four-way tie for 11th. Junior Deborah Means shot a 76 for WFU, five-over par, giving her a two-round total of 158 (16-over par). Sophomore Christine Hallstrom shot an 82, 11-over, giving her a two day total of 170, 28-over par.

All-ACC and All-America candidate Clau, who is searching for her third victory or tie for first of the season, is tied with Duke's Virada Nirapathpongporn and North Carolina's Meaghan Francella. Duke's Liz Janangelo is in fourth with 148 (six-over), and WFU's Hoagland is fifth with 150 (eight-over).
