Women's Tennis Slips By NC State, 4-3

Winston-Salem, NC -- The Wake Forest women's tennis team overpowered NC State, 4-3, for its first ACC win on Sunday at Leighton Stadium. The Demon Deacons swept all three doubles matches and then split the six singles matches to claim the victory.

Karin Coeztee teamed up with Aimee Smith at No. 1 doubles to take out Kristin Lam and Loni Worsley, 8-2, and then went on to a straight set victory at No. 1 singles. No. 2 doubles pair Katie Martzoff and Danielle Schwartz worked over Jennifer Jassawalla and Myrna Bawoso, 8-2. Both Martzoff and Schwartz defeated their opponents in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Deacon Duo Elizabeth Proctor and Sandi Knight beat Carmen Torres and Virginia Romero at No. 3 doubles. Proctor took Bawoso to three sets, before falling 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.

With the victory, Wake Forest improves to 3-18 overall and 1-4 in the ACC, while NC State drops to 6-7 and 0-5. The Demon Deacons play their final home match of the season against top-ranked Duke on Wednesday, April 9 at 5:00 pm in Leighton Stadium.
