Field Hockey Visits Duke, Hosts Kent State

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The #1 Wake Forest field hockey team opens up ACC action this Saturday when the Deacons (3-0) invade Durham to tangle with the #5 Duke Blue Devils (4-0). WFU will round out this weekend's action by hosting Kent State on Sunday at 1 pm in Kentner Stadium.
Last time out...
The Deacons pounced on James Madison, 6-0, on September 7th. Seniors Katie Ackerman, Emily Ruth, and junior Claire Laubach each scored a pair of goals, while junior Kelly Doton tallied three assists in the battle against the Dukes. Senior goalkeeper Katie Ridd recorded her second shutout of the season, facing only one shot as the Deacs outshot the Dukes, 26-1.
#1 again...
Wake Forest entered the STX/NFHCA's first poll of the season right where they left off last year. The Deacons garnered 12 first place votes and lead ACC foe North Carolina by two votes. Maryland is third followed by Penn State, while Duke rounds out the top-five. Virginia also represents the ACC in the poll placing in 16th.
Series Notes...
The Demon Deacons are riding a 22-game winning streak...the last ACC regular season loss came at the hands of Maryland when the Deacs lost in College Park two years ago...WFU has a seven-game winning streak over the Blue Devils dating back to 1999...Wake Forest beat Duke 2-0 in the last meeting on November 17, 2002 in the NCAA Second Round.
Wake Forest leads the all-time series with Kent State 4-1...the last meeting between the Golden Flashes and the Demon Deacons came in 2001 as the host Deacs downed the Flashes 4-2...the Deacons only loss to Kent State came in 1992, when the Deacs lost 3-1 in Louisville, Ky...since the loss, the Deacons have a four game winning streak over the Golden Flashes.
