Women's Golf Moves Up to 16th at The Preview

OPELIKA, Ala. - The Wake Forest women's golf team moved up one spot in the standings and is tied for 16th after two rounds of the Fall Preview, held at the Grand National Lake Course. The Deacs moved from 18th place to tying Georgia for 16th during Saturday??s second round after carding a 14-over 302. The three-day, 54-hole event is taking place on Grand National??s par 72, 6,215-yard layout, which will also serve as the site of the 2004 NCAA Championships.
Arizona leads the 18-team field with a five-over 581. Wake Forest, with a 41-over 617, sits 36 strokes back of the team leader going into Sunday??s final round.
Deacon freshman Mandy Goins posted an impressive two-under 70 on Saturday to move up to 23rd place in the standings. With a two-round total of five-over 149, Goins is nine strokes back of field leader Cassandra Kirkland of Arizona.
Junior Ashley Hoagland is one stroke back of Goins, tied for 28th with a six-over 150. Hoagland turned in an even 72 on Saturday to go with her first-round 78.
WFU junior Christine Hallstrom is tied for 72nd with a 15-over 159 (79-80), while senior Deborah Means is three strokes back in 78th place (82-80). Another Deacon freshman, Maggie Simons, is tied for 86th with a 22-over 166 (79-87).
