Men's Tennis Completes Second Day At UVA Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.-- The Wake Forest men's tennis team wrapped up day two of play on Saturday at the UVA Invitational. Andrew Hamar, Todd Paul, and Andrew Simpson each won a singles match on Saturday and try to finish on top on Sunday.
In Flight A singles, Hamar won two matches on Friday and continued his strong play with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over his teammate, Derrick Spice on Saturday morning. Hamar will play fourth-ranked Jeffrey Kader in Sunday's semifinal match.
Paul won his third consecutive flight B singles match, knocking off William & Mary's Colin O'Brien in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2 on Saturday. Also in this flight, Joe Bates dropped a hard-fought, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 match to Niklas Oskarsson of Old Dominion.
In the second round of flight B consolation play, Andrew Simpson defeated Alabama's Mike Green in straight sets, but Will Chewning fell to Virginia's Burak Ahmed by a score of 4-6, 7-6, 10-7.
In flight A doubles play, the team of Hamar and Simpson was ousted 8-3 by Rylan Rizza and Nick Meythaler of Virginia while Bates and Chewning lost to Matt Simeon and William Noblitt of NC State in flight B play.
Brett Ross and D.J. Spice won their first doubles consolation match over the team of Davis/Shaw of NC State but dropped their second match to Koziell/McKinley of Purdue. The doubles team of Paul and Liron Strauss also their first consolation match to Antle/Manilla of Old Dominion. Ross was also defeated in his second round singles consolation match by Geoff Russell of William & Mary, 6-4, 6-4.
