Men's Tennis Wraps Up Play At UVA Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.-- The Wake Forest men's tennis team completed play at the UVA Invitational on Sunday in Charlottesville, Va. Andrew Hamar, Todd Paul and Andrew Simpson each won one singles match on day three, but all came up short at the end.
In Flight A singles, Hamar took down his third different ranked opponent out of four matches when he knocked off William & Mary's Jeffrey Kader in the semifinals on Sunday morning. Hamar wasted no time taking out Kader as he won 6-2, 6-2. But Hamar's run at the title ended in the championship match when he was defeated by second ranked Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion, 6-4, 7-6.
In Flight B singles, Todd Paul started the morning by defeating Harvard's Jason Beren, 6-3, 7-5. But Paul also fell short in the championship match when he lost to Jack Li, also from Harvard, by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
In the consolation round for Flight B Singles, Andrew Simpson rolled past Purdue's Eric Hodgman, 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals but dropped the title match to Virginia's Burak Ahmed in straight sets.
The Demon Deacons return to action when they go to the All-American Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. starting on October 3.
