CHAMPAIGN, IL.-- The Wake Forest volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday night in the championship game of the State Farm Illini Classic. Illinois needed just three games to defeat the Demon Deacons and improve to 4-1 on the season.

Valerie Rydberg and Jessica Hauff combined for 13 kills for the Deacs and were both named to the State Farm Illini Classic All-Tournament team. Rydberg was also named MVP of the Deacon Invitational last weekend in Winston-Salem.

Freshman Lauren Peterson led Wake Forest with nine kills and another freshman, Natasha Schaefer, recorded a team-high 12 digs for the Deacs. Lisa Argabright led all players with 18 kills for the Fighting Illini.

The Demon Deacons return to action next weekend when they travel to Washington, D.C. for the 2003 Georgetown Classic. The Deacs will take on Coppin State on Friday, then William and Mary and Georgetown on Saturday.
