Wake Forest Postgame Quotes
January 10, 2004 -- vs. Clemson
Wake Forest Head Coach Skip Prosser
On the game:
"We were happy to get a win. We wanted to outrebound them, force 20 turnovers and shoot 50 percent from the field against them. These were three areas that, if we did well in, we would win the game. We were lucky in some ways to get a win. We didn't take many inappropriate shots, but they didn't fall in today."
On playing just two guards in the second half:
"The two guards in the second half looked good and I thought it was the best chance to win the game. Trent Strickland played well off the bench. It's not like Halloween, where everyone dresses up and gets candy. You have to earn it."
Sophomore Eric Williams
On working down low vs. Hobbs:
"Chris Hobbs is one of the strongest in the ACC and to feel that make me work harder in the post. It was tough down low but we have more quickness and agility to make up for our lack of strength."
"This game woke us up a little and tells us that we need to continue to work hard in the gym and perfect our shots."
On Chris Paul:
"Chris is a wonderful point guard and he gets us out of difficult situations. It is shocking to see his growth as a leader on the court, especially since he's only a freshman."
Sophomore Trent Strickland
"It's my job to come out there and give the team a big energy boost. It's been a great week playing in here and I thank God for the talent he's given me."
"The two guard system helped us out on the boards and it worked very well against Clemson today."
Freshman Chris Paul
"I didn't realize that I got my career high today. I'm just glad we got a win and that's all that I was worried about. Coach did a good job switching up defense and trying new things against this big Clemson team. The two guards in the second half seemed to work out well today."
On the upcoming schedule:
"We're going to continue to play into Big E; hopefully all the way to the Final Four. His presence down low has been the key to our success so far."
Clemson Head Coach Oliver Purnell
"Our inability to take care of the ball was the reason why we couldn't win this game. We didn't play well down the stretch. I am disappointed that we didn't win this game. We were within striking distance on Wake's home court with six minutes left. We turned it over two or three times in the last six minutes and that was the difference in the game."
"I hope we come away with some positive feelings, because we played better than we did at Duke. Now we have to go down and get our first ACC win at home against a good Florida State basketball team."
