Women's Tennis Starts Strong At Wake Forest Invitational

Winston-Salem, NC. - - The Wake Forest women's tennis team came out strong and determined on the first day of action at the Wake Forest Invitational by sending all of their singles players to the next round of play.
In Flight A singles, Katie Martzolf breezed past UNCG's Lisa Suggs with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Jenna Loeb, also in Flight A, received a bye in the first round and will face Anat Elazari of Virginia Tech on Saturday.
In Flight B singles, Freshman Alisha Talbot of Wake Forest won her first career match 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2) over Whitney Miles of UNCG. Talbot said in response to the match, "This was my first collegiate tennis match. I was real nervous the first set, but I listened to my coach and eventually pulled it out." Talbot takes on Lindsey Pereira of Virginia on Saturday.
Blakelyt Offutt took her first round match in Flight C singles with a strong 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Jessica Long of Virginiia Tech. Danielle Schwartz of Wake Forest, playing in Flight D singles, received a first round bye and will face Kate Harrington of Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Finally, in Flight A doubles, the team of 52nd ranked Martzolf and Loeb dropped a close match 9-8 (5) to Elazari/A. James of Virginia Tech. In Flight B doubles, the team of Offutt and Talbot received a first round bye and went on to win their next match of the day 8-4 over Wade/Zabkar of UNCG.
The tournament will resume Saturday morning at 8:30 with doubles play. Singles play will follow in the afternoon.
