
Women's Tennis Wins Home Opener Over Charlotte

The Wake Forest women's tennis team started off the spring season on a positive note by defeating Charlotte 6-1 with relative ease at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The Demon Deacons were challenged in doubles by the 49ers, but in the end prevailed. Karin Coetzee and Ashlee Davis of Wake Forest teamed at the number one doubles spot to defeat Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray 8-4. The closest match of the day came at the number two doubles position where Danielle Schwartz and Blakely Offutt held off Kathy Robey and Ofra Friedman to take the win 9-8(4). Finally, at number three doubles, Alex Hirsch and Jenna Loeb of Wake Forest knocked off Jennifer Hatch and Ali Piacante of Charlotte 8-6 to sweep the doubles play.
The Deacons cruised to victory by taking five out of the six singles matches. Coetzee defeated Swain with ease 6-0, 6-0 at the number one singles position, while Davis knocked off Friedman 6-2, 7-6(7) at the number two spot. The only loss of the day for Wake Forest was at number three singles where Loeb fell to Robey 6-4, 6-1. Schwartz defeated Murray 6-1, 6-1 at number four, Offutt beat Piacente 6-1, 6-4 at the number five spot, and Hirsch defeated Hatch 6-0, 6-4 at number six singles.
The Demon Deacons will return to action tomorrow at noon against UNC-Greensboro at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
