Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest cross country team received an at large bid to the 2004 NCAA Cross Country Championships announced the NCAA selection committee on Sunday. The Deacons travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the 6k race on Monday, Nov. 22. Race time is set for 11 a.m.

"I am so proud of our efforts this season," said head coach Annie Bennett. "We were plagued by injuries all year but I thought we really stepped it up this weekend and we are looking forward to a strong performance at Nationals."

This is the third consecutive year that the women alone have qualified for the final weekend in the NCAA tournament. The Deacons finished 21st last season, paced by senior All-American Annie Bersagel, who has been injured for nearly the entire 2004 season.

The Deacons expect strong performances by their sophomore class, headed by 2004 All-ACC runners Selina Sekulic and Michelle Sikes, as well as junior Hanna Bremler. All three earned All-Region honors on Saturday at the NCAA Regional Competition.
