WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest built a big early lead, including an 18-point halftime margin, and cruised to a 97-58 victory over visiting Stetson on Sunday afternoon at Joel Coliseum. The Deacons improved their season record to 3-0.

Liz Strunk scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting to lead four Deacons in double figures. Erin Ferrell scored 15 points while Tiara Good and Cotelia Bond-Young chipped in 12 points each. All 10 Wake Forest players that saw action scored.

The Deacons shot the ball well throughout the game, but particularly in the second half. Wake Forest shot a blazing 51.5 percent from the floor, 5-of-9 from three-point range and 14-of-16 from the free throw line in the game's final 20 minutes.

On the defensive end, Wake Forest limited Stetson to 38 percent shooting and forced 28 Hatter turnovers.

Strunk put the Deacs on the board early in the first half, helping them out to a quick 10-0 lead, but the Hatters answered with a six point run of their own. Bringing the score within one at 11-10, a seven-point run by Strunk increased the Wake Forest lead to 18-10. From that point, a pair of three-pointers by Bond-Young and one by Jennifer Johnson started the Deacs on a 19-8 run that doubled the distance between their opponent. A second before the buzzer sounded, Jones unleashed a perfect shot from beyond half-court that sent the Demon Deacons in the locker room leading, 44-26.

Opening the second half, the Hatters scored two points with a lay-up by Kristy Brown, but Strunk immediately responded with a three-pointer. Moments later, a pair of jumpers and a three-pointer from Ferrell helped Wake Forest go on a nine-point run, putting them ahead, 61-32. Wake Forest never looked back.

Wake Forest held a big advantage with 40 points in the paint compared to Stetson's 24. The Deacons were also effective in transition, scoring 24 points on the fast break while limiting the Hatters to just eight.

Johnson was close to a double-double scoring nine points with 10 rebounds. She also had four assists and four steals. Johnson was one of three Deacons to record four steals along with Tara Tate and Bond-Young.

Stetson was paced by Nefertiti Walker who scored 17 points for the Hatters (1-1).

The Demon Deacons, who are currently averaging 85 points per game, are 3-0 overall and will continue on their five-game homestand on Tuesday night against Davidson. Game time at the Joel is set for 7:00 p.m.
