Atlanta, Ga. - Christy Williams notched eight kills on 13 attempts for a .462 attack percentage, in addition to three block assists for the Demon Deacon volleyball team, but it wasn't enough as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets flew past Wake Forest, 3-0 (25-30, 22-30, 19-30). With the loss, the Deacs fall to 11-14 overall and 3-11 in the ACC, while the Yellow Jackets grab their 19th consecutive victory and improve to 21-5, 14-0 ACC.
In the first game, the Deacs were able to keep the score close, tying the match eight times, but at the 10-11 mark, Georgia Tech was able to break away on a four point run to take the lead. At the 16-13 mark, the Yellow Jackets were able to extend their lead with Lynnette Moster at the line for eight straight points. A kill by Lauren Peterson broke the run, but it wasn't enough as the Deacs dropped the first game, 30-15.
In the second, two attack errors on Georgia Tech gave Wake the 2-0 lead, but two errors by Wake and four kills by the Yellow Jackets quickly gave the opponents the uppperhand. A kill by Morgan Havig and another by Kim Stern helped close the gap at 8-10, but a 4-0 run by Georgia Tech just increased the lead some more. Fighting back, another kill by Stern and one by junior Erin Borhart brought the game to 20-21, but two consecutive block assists by Georgia Tech again increased its lead, eventually giving the Wreck the second game, 30-22.
Like the second game, Wake jumped out to an early two point lead in the third. Keeping it close, the Deacs tied the score seven times, but at the 16-15 mark Georgia Tech took a 7-2 run, leaving Wake behind. Continuing to increase its lead, Georgia Tech took Wake on a 9-1 run to end the game, 30-19.
Adding to her strong weekend, Klarysa Henry grabbed 15 digs, adding to her 20 from Friday night against Clemson. Peterson, who did not play against Clemson, put down seven kills and one block assist against Georgia Tech. Borhart had 23 assists, three kills and eight digs, in addition to a pair of blocks.
The Deacs will return to action, Saturday night, Nov. 13 against Virginia Tech. The match will be the final home contest of the season and is set to begin at 6 p.m.
