Women's Golf Climbs to Sixth at Lady Puerto Rico

San Juan, PR - The Wake Forest women's golf team is currently in sixth place out of 15 teams after the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Dorado Del Mar Country Club in San Juan.
Wake Forest shot a five-over par, 293, in round two in order to move up three places into sixth. The team trails fifth place Tulsa by only five strokes. The Deacons shot 19 strokes better than their opening round score of 312 and carded the best team score of the second round. The round is the best performance by the team in the 2003-04 campaign, eclipsing the previous team best of 296 set at the Mason Rudolph Championships. Duke continues to lead the tournament after the second round by 11 strokes over Oklahoma. The individual leader is Duke player Liz Janangelo, who is two-under par for the tournament
The Deacons climbed through the standings with great individual play on Monday. Three Wake Forest players shot rounds of 73, including Christine Hallstrom, Ashley Hoagland, and Deb Means. With her second straight 73, Hallstrom moved into a tie for sixth and is only four strokes back from the leader. Ashley Hoagland is one stroke behind Hallstrom in a tie for tenth place with a two-day total of 147. With the strong two-day totals, Hallstrom and Hoagland have played their best 36-holes of the season. Means is currently ten-over par and is in a tie for 36th position.
The fourth individual round that counted in the team score today was by freshman Mandy Goins. She bounced back from an opening round 84 to fire a 74 in the second round. The performance moved her into 51st place and clinched the best round for the Demon Deacons this season. Joy Juskowich carded an 84 and has a two-day total of 171. She is currently in 72nd place.
