Women's Tennis Loses at Miami, Fla.

MIAMI, Fla. - University of Miami freshman Audrey Banada clinched a 5-2 victory for the No. 20-ranked Hurricanes women's tennis team over No. 34 Wake Forest Thursday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes (8-1) remain perfect at home with a record of 7-0 in Coral Gables. The Demon Deacons fall to 7-5 on the season. UM leads the all-time series 6-1 over Wake Forest.
Banada remains undefeated on the season with a 9-0 dual record and stands at 18-1 overall. She beat senior Aimee Smith in straight sets 7-5, 6-0 to clinch the win for UM.
Miami won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 44-ranked duo of Melissa Applebaum and Megan Bradley knocked off No. 32 Karin Coetzee and Katie Martzolf 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.
Banada and Mari Toro teamed up to beat Smith and Sandie Knight 8-2 at the No. 3 spot.
The Hurricanes quickly went up 2-0 in the match as No. 9 Bradley defeated No. 14 Coetzee in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Applebaum also won in straight sets beating Martzolf 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to put UM up 3-0.
Banada clinched a few minutes before Toro downed Ashlee Davis 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles to give the Hurricanes the 5-0 edge.
With the match already decided, senior Liz Proctor and junior Danielle Schwartz captured their matches at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Proctor edged Staci Steve, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Schwartz also won in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 over Sihem Bennacer.
The Demon Deacons return to action this Saturday afternoon against defending NCAA Champion Florida. First-serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
