Deacs Tied For Fifth After 36 At Lady Gamecock

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team is tied for fifth place after two rounds of the Lady Gamecock Invitational, held at the University Club. The course measures 5,996 yards and has a par of 72.
The Demon Deacons shot a 24-over 312 as a team on Saturday, and sit at 45-over 621 for 36 holes.
WFU sits 16 strokes back of North Carolina, who leads the 11-team field with a 29-over 605. Host South Carolina is second at 607. The Deacs are tied with Washington in fifth.
Deacon junior Ashley Hoagland is tied for sixth overall at seven-over for the tournament. Hoagland shot 75 Saturday to go with her opening score of 76. At 151, she sits six strokes back of field leader Ashley Prange of UNC. Prange is one over for the tournament and owns a two-stroke lead over her nearest competitors.
Freshman Mandy Goins is tied for 12th at 11-over par 155 with rounds of 76-79. Senior Deb Means is one stroke back at 12-over and is tied for 19th.
Junior Christine Hallstrom shot an 82 on Saturday and is tied for 38th overall with an 18-over 162. Freshman Jessica Castle shaved six strokes off her first-round score by posting a 79 on Saturday. She is tied for 44th at 20-over 164. Sophomore Julie McKenna, competing as an individual, is 62nd with a 29-over 173 (88-85).
The final round of the Lady Gamecock Classic takes place Sunday. Wake Forest, paired with Furman and Washington, will tee off beginning at 9:00 a.m.
