Men's Golf Ties For Eighth at The Schenkel

STATESBORO, Ga. - Leading after the first two rounds, the Wake Forest men's golf team struggled to a season-high score of 312 (+24) in the final round of The Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational on Sunday. The Deacs dropped to a tie for eighth place in the final standings. Fifteen teams participated in the 54-hole event at the par 72, 6,962-yard Forest Heights Country Club.
Florida, which trailed WFU by one stroke going into the final round, won the event by shooting a field-best one-over 289 on Sunday. No one shot under par in the final round as strong winds blew through the area. The top-ranked Gators finished as the only team under at 859 (-5) for the event. Wake Forest ended with a tournament score of 881 (+17).
Georgia finished second, 10 strokes back of UF at +5. The Bulldogs were followed by South Carolina (+7), Duke (+8), Augusta State (+12), Clemson (+14) and LSU (+15). Southern Cal tied with the Deacs in eighth at +17.
Deacon senior Bill Haas, who led the field at 12-under going into the final round, carded a 77 on Sunday and dropped to a second-place finish at seven-under 209 for the event. Haas got off to a rough start with four bogeys through his first eight holes. He carded just one bogey on the back nine, but had no birdies on Sunday. Florida's Matt Every slipped by Haas with a final-round 68 and finished at nine-under to capture individual medalist honors. It is Haas' second-straight runner-up finish.
Sophomore Kyle Reifers also shot a 77 on Sunday and finished tied for 17th overall with a two-over 218 (72-69-77). Freshman Chad Wilcox turned in final-round 78 and tied for 39th at eight-over 224 (75-71-78). Deacon Sean Moore carded an 80 to move to a tie for 66that 14-over 230 (72-78-80), while sophomore Alex Yates rounded out the Deacon lineup, placing 72nd with a 21-over 237 (76-78-83).
