COLLEGE PARK, MD.-- #46 Wake Forest rebounded from a tough loss at Virginia on Saturday by going into College Park and sweeping Maryland, 7-0 Sunday afternoon. The Demon Deacons perfect day gave them their first ACC victory of the season and puts them at 8-6 overall. The Terrapins drop to 5-6 overall and are still searching for their first conference win at 0-5.
Brett Ross and Andrew Hamar teamed up at No. 1 doubles and took care of Ian Bliss and Scott Peters, 8-4. Seniors David Loewenthal and Andrew Simpson wasted no time against Troy Demers and Chase Dawson at No. 2, storming to an 8-0 victory. Todd Paul and Joe Bates finished off the doubles sweep by disposing of Scott Fink and David Reichsfeld, 8-2 at No. 3.
In singles play, David Loewenthal made his return to No. 1, defeating Maryland's Troy Demers in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. Todd Paul, Brett Ross, Liron Strauss and Joe Bates also took straight-set victories over their opponents while Andrew Hamar and Scott Peters played the closes match of the day at No. 3. Hamar dropped the first set but came out on top, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5 and 13-11 in a super-tiebreaker.
The Deacs return home to face the Duke Blue Devils Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
