Women's Golf Finishes Tenth at the Liz Murphey Collegiate

Athens, GA - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished in tenth place out of 18 teams at the Liz Murphey Collegiate, which was held at the at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The course has a par of 72 and is 6,104 yards long.
The Demon Deacons fired the fourth best score in the final round of play but were unable to ascend to a higher finish. The team shot a five-over 293 and ended the tournament 37-over par with 901 strokes in three days. The round tied the second round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic as the best round of the spring season.
Georgia mounted a final round comeback to win the team championship on their home course after shooting a three-under 285. The team shot an 865 in the three rounds, which is one-over par. Brittany Lang of Duke won the individual medalist honors by three stokes after a final round 68.
Leading the way for Wake Forest was Christine Hallstrom, who carded a round of par on the final day and finished 28th. For the event, Hallstrom was eight-over par (224). One stroke behind Hallstrom was the duo of Jessica Castle and Mandy Goins, who each fired a 73 in the final round of action. Castle finished the tournament 12-over par and finished 43rd while Goins was 13-over and finished 46th.
Ashley Hoagland's round of 75 was the fourth score counted to achieve the team round of 293. Hoagland finished tied for 71st at 18-over par and accumulated 234 strokes in 54-holes of action. Deb Means, who led the team in scoring the first two days finished with a final round score of 76. Her total of 223 (+7) is her best 54-hole score of the year and gave her a 20th place finish. Maggie Simons fired a final round score of 82 to make her 25-over for the tournament. Her three day total of 241 tied her for 84th position.
The team will be back in action Apr. 2 when they play in the Bryan National Collegiate. The event is hosted by Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and will be held at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, N.C.
