
Bill Haas Shoots A Solid Even Par In Round One

Wake Forest senior Bill Haas shot an even-par 70 today in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championship at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
Haas is tied for 20th place, five shots behind individual leader Jeff Hood of California, who shot a 5-under par 65 on the par 70 layout. Georgia's Kevin Kisner and TCU's Adam Meyer are one stroke back at 4-under (66). Tied for fourth place are UNLV's Ryan Moore (67) and Indiana's Jeff Overton (67).
Haas had 16 pars to go with one bogey and one birdie today. He shot a 1-over 36 on the front nine, followed by a 1-under 34 on the back nine.
The 72-hole event continues tomorrow through Friday. Haas will tee-off at 8:48 a.m. on Wednesday.
Haas, the 2004 Ben Hogan Award winner and the two-time ACC Player of the Year, is vying to become the fifth Wake Forest player to win the NCAA Championship. He would join former Deacons Arnold Palmer (1949 and 1950), Curtis Strange (1974), Jay Haas (1975) and Gary Hallberg (1979). Jay Haas is Bill's father.
In the team standings, California shot a 279 (1-under) to lead BYU (280) by one stroke and TCU (281) by two strokes.
