Women's Golf Finishes Fifth At The Cougar Classic

Charleston, SC - The Demon Deacons finished in fifth place at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C. Tuesday. Ashley Hoagland and Christine Hallstrom paced Wake Forest with tied for seventh and tied for 16th place finishes respectively. The Deacs finished 23 over par for the tournament, 14 shots off leader Louisiana State.
Hoagland fired a one-over par on the first round, followed by two rounds of par to close out the tournament. She shot even on par three holes and five-under on par five holes, the second best mark of the tournament. She posted 10 birdies in the three-rounds.
Hallstrom tied for 16th place with six other players. She offered rounds of 73, 73 and 77 on the par-72 Yeamans Hall course. Hallstrom finished seven over for the tournament, shooting four under on par fives and 39 scores of par.
Maggie Simons finished the tournament in a tie for 22nd place, with rounds of 76, 74 and 74. All three rounds beat her previous low score as a Deacon of 77. Her tournament total of 224 crushed her previous record of 241. She posted eight birdies and was three under on par five holes.
Mandy Goins finished the tournament in a tie for 24th place. She finished with rounds of 74, 74 and 77, even on par three holes and 45 holes of par, the most by any player in the tournament.
Julie McKenna was 14 over for the tournament, good for a tied for 51st place finish. Today's round of 75 tied for her best score as a Deacon. Her tournament total of 230 bested her previous record by four strokes.
Rachel Smith (Virginia) led the field at four under for the tournament. Louisiana State claimed the team title at nine-over for the tournament.
