Head Basketball Coaches Skip Prosser and Mike Petersen and the Wake Forest Men's and Women's basketball teams are challenging the Wake Forest and Winston-Salem communities to a road race against cancer. "RUN WITH THE DEACS," a fun-run and race to raise money for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund Drive at Wake Forest, will be held Friday, September 24th at 4 p.m. to help kick-off Varsity Club weekend featuring men's soccer, women's volleyball and field hockey and football versus Boston College. Coaches Prosser and Petersen, their staffs and players will lead all participants on a 5K run/one mile walk on the University cross country course. The general public is invited - as runners, walkers or spectators. The entry fee for participants is $15.00 with all money being donated to the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund Drive in memory of a great Wake Forest athlete/alum and Chicago Bear star who died of cancer. This fall marks the twenty-fifth year of the student-initiated Piccolo Cancer Drive with over $677,000 raised to directly support cancer research through the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University. Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, the WFU Running Club, and ROCK 92 are co-sponsoring the "RUN WITH THE DEACS" event. Pre-registration for the event is being handled through the Student Development Office, 317 Benson Center (336 - 758-5921) with day-of-event registration at the Water Tower Field at 3:00 p.m. Each participant will receive a "RUN WITH THE DEACS" NIKE t-shirt and be eligible for additional prizes to be awarded to the top three finishers in four separate men's and women's age divisions. For more information, call the Wake Forest Student Development office (336 - 758-5921) or the Men's Basketball Office (336 - 758-5622) or go to www.wfu.edu/campuslife/development.
