Winston-Salem, N.C. - Porsche' Jones became the only Wake Forest women's basketball player in the program's history to recorded a double-double in steals and points, helping the Demon Deacons to an 86-37 victory over visiting Savannah State in the final non-conference game of the season, Monday night at Joel Coliseum.

Shooting 5-for-7 from the field Jones put up 15 points and 10 steals, en route to her career night and was just one assist away from a triple-double, another feat that has never been accomplished by a Wake player.

Wake Forest improves to 11-4 overall and closes the non-conference season with a 11-2 mark, which is the best non-conference record since the 1987-88 season when Wake went 12-1. That year also marked the Deacs first and only trip to the NCAA tournament.

The Deacs took the Lady Tigers on a 28-3 run to open the game and didn't look back from that point. Pulling ahead by as much as 51 during the second half, Wake Forest dominated the entire game with season-high 22steals as a team, with nine of them by Jones. Four Deacs scored in double figures, including freshman Christen Brown who had a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Liz Strunk also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, her first of the season. Cotelia Bond-Young put up the game-high 19 points.

The game opened up with the Deacs taking control early with a run that just didn't seem to end. Ferrell started things out with a pair from the field that was followed up by five from Bond-Young. Jones and Strunk split the next 10 points before Nicole Hunter finally put the Lady Tigers on the board with a three-pointer with just over 12 minutes remaining. Freshman Tara Tate hit her first career three pointer at 24-3 that was quickly followed with four points from Bond-Young and Johnson. As the half ran down, the Deacs didn't stop with Bond-Young hitting a three at the buzzer and pushing their lead to 34 -- the largest margin at the half this year.

In the second half not much changed between the two teams. Wake Forest continued to dominate and pushed its lead to as much as 51. Although the Tigers did take a five point run at 77-33, the Deacs lead was too much for Savannah State to handle and Wake eventually closed the game, 86-37.

As a team, the Deacs scored 39 points off turnovers, in addition to 34 fast break points. On the night, Wake had a season-low 12 turnovers and shot 51.4% from the field.

For the Lady Tigers, Ebony Dinkins and Fana Walcott had eight points, while Shamice James added eight boards.

The Deacons will travel to Coral Gables, Fla. to face ACC newcomers Miami, Thursday, Jan. 13. Against the Hurricanes, it will be just the second meeting and the first since a 1993-94 victory.
