Women's Tennis Falls At No. 21 Notre Dame

South Bend, IN - The Wake Forest women's tennis team dropped their first match of the spring season falling to No. 21 Notre Dame in a close match. The Demon Deacons were defeated 5-2 in the hard fought match at Eck Tennis Pavilion.
Wake Forest (3-1) had several key singles victories in the match, yet ultimately recorded their first loss on the season during a tough road swing. Ashley Davis, ranked 77th nationally, and Alex Hirsch, recorded the only wins for the Deacons in singles play. Davis defeated 69th ranked Catrina Thompson at number one singles 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 1-0(10-8) while Hirsch knocked off Liz Donohue at the number six spot with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory.
The clinching victory for Notre Dame came at number five singles where Kristina Stastny defeated Wake Forest's Jenna Loeb 6-3, 6-1 to close out the match. In doubles play, the Deacons lost the early doubles point by losing all three positions to the Fighting Irish.
The Demon Deacons will continue their seven match road stand at Indiana on February 12 at 10:00am.
