Winston-Salem, N.C. - Redshirt-sophomore Porsche' Jones sunk two free throws with eight seconds remaining in regulation to push the Wake Forest women's basketball team into overtime against the visiting Virginia Cavaliers, but the Demon Deacons were unable to pull it out, falling, 85-83, Thursday night in Joel Coliseum. The Deacs are now 10-4 overall and 0-2 in the ACC, while the Cavaliers improve to 11-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

Junior Cotelia Bond-Young scored a game and career-high 30 points, including six three pointers, while fellow junior Liz Strunk added 21 points, along with five rebounds. Freshman Christen Brown put in a career high seven points, all in the overtime period, while Keila Evans and Jennifer Johnson each added in a team-high eight boards.

Evans opened the game up for the Deacs with a block on the first play, but after a three-pointer by Erin Ferrell, the Cavaliers stormed off on a 9-0 run that gave the visitors an early 12-3 lead. Another three pointer at 6-12 by Ferrell opened the door and started Wake off on a 7-0 run that brought the score within two, but another seven point run by the Cavs kept Wake fighting for the lead. Despite a 10 point lead at one point, Strunk chipped away at it with five points that helped reduce the deficit to five. With just over three minutes remaining in the half, a three by Bond-Young knotted the score at 31 and then again at 35 all. Unfortunately, an offensive rebound by Virginia's Lynette O'Reggio put the Cavs into the locker room up by a pair.

The second half opened up in the same fashion as the first, with the Cavs opening things up with a nine point run and Wake answering with a five point run of their own. A three by Bond-Young again brought the score within three at 51-53, but five consecutive points continued to keep Virginia in the lead. Not giving in and with a minute remaining Bond-Young sunk a pair of three's to tie the score. Bringing the ball back down, Siedah Williams dropped it in, leaving the Deacs just one more opportunity to take the game. A foul on Jones with eight seconds left brought her to the line, where she sunk them both of them, tying the score at 66 all, pushing the Deacs into their third overtime game of the year.

In the overtime stanza, Virginia put away a quick five points that gave them a 74-66 lead, but Wake was able to get back on the board with the help of Brown, who put up seven. Sending their opponents to the line for a total of 28 free throws in the overtime stanza put four of the starting five on the bench, but the Deacs continued to push the Cavaliers. Another three by Bond-Young with 7.1 second left and then another at the buzzer helped Wake out, but it wasn't enough as the Demon Deacons fell, 85-83.

For Virginia, Williams dished out 28 points and the game-high 11 rebounds, while Brandi Teamer had 21 points. Sharnee Zoll also added to the Cavalier victory with fi blocks.

On the game, the Cavaliers hit 26 of their 54 total free throws, while Wake Forest hit 10 of its 17. As a team, Wake had 24 fast break points, along with 34 points in the paint.

The Demon Deacons will return to the court for their final non-conference game against Savannah State. Game time at the Joel is set for 7 p.m.
