Wake Forest Volleyball Falls To Maryland In Five

College Park, Md. - -- Freshman Natalie Mullikin hit a match high .762 and senior Christy Williams followed closely with a .457 attack percentage, but the Wake Forest volleyball team was unable to pull it out in five games against Maryland, Friday night in College Park, Md.
Mullikin closed the night with 16 kills, 21 attacks and no errors, while Williams finished with 18 kills, 35 attacks and two errors. Like Mullikin, redshirt freshman Jessica Furlong closed the match with 16 kills, while junior Natasha Schaefer earned the team high 20 digs.
Statistically the Deacs out-hit the Terps, .319 to .314 and led defensively with 76 digs to Maryland's 67. Wake Forest also outblocked Maryland with eight team blocks to the Terps 6.5.
Despite dropping the first game, 30-28, Wake came back in the second and took it by the same margin. In the third, the defending ACC Tournament champions won, 30-21, but the Deacs continued to fight and won the third, 30-26. In the fifth game, the score was close, but Maryland took the match, 15-10.
The loss drops the Deacs to 8-9 overall and 1-7 in the conference, while the Terps improve to 16-1 overall and 7-1 in the conference.
