
Volleyball Blanks Boston College, 3-0

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - - Redshirt freshman Jessica Furlong had the match-high 17 kills and four other added double-digit digs as the Wake Forest volleyball team blanked Boston College, 3-0 (30-25, 30-27, 30-28), Sunday afternoon in Boston, Mass. The win improves the Demon Deacons to 9-9 on the season and 2-7 in the conference, while the Eagles fall to 6-12 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
Furlong averaged 5.7 kills per game and hit .262. Lauren Peterson also had a strong day on the outside with 13 kills. On the defensive end, Natasha Schaefer led Wake Forest with 17 digs, while Erin Borhart followed closely with 15. Jenna Doane and AJ Nicholas also were in double-digits with 13 and 11, respectively.
In game one the Deacs fought back from a 6-3 deficit to tie the score at nine all. From there Wake took the lead with a four point run. However, BC did come back and bring it within one with a five point run that ended at 20-19. A time-out helped the team regroup and they came out of the break and took three straight points. Only allowing the Eagles five more, the Deacs took the first game, 30-25,
Game two was a close one with the Deacs trailing until the 11 all mark. Keeping it within no more than four points, each team battled for a permanent lead. Tying it once again at 24 all, Wake won three consecutive points that gave them the edge that was necessary to win.
The final game was another close one between the teams, with the score knotting 13 times. It wasn't until 21 all that a 6-1 run pushed the Deacs into the lead. Despite the Eagles taking three of the next four points, Wake held onto the lead and took game three, 30-28.
Statistically the match was very close with the Wake knocking down 52 kills to BC's 51 and 75 digs to 72. For the Eagles, Allison Anderson earned the match-high 35 digs, while Kelsey Johnson had the team high 14 kills.
Wake Forest will return home for a pair of matches against Florida State and Miami. The Demon Deacon will first host the Seminoles on Friday at 7 p.m. and then the Hurricanes on Saturday at 6 p.m.
