Deacons Finish Fourth At The Isleworth Invitational

WINDERMERE, FL - On a day when gusting winds made the Isleworth Country Club Course extremely difficult, no Wake Forest golfer broke 80 and the Demon Deacons slipped from first place to finish tied for fourth at the Isleworth Invitational here Tuesday.

After Monday's round was cancelled because of weather, the Demon Deacons took a one-shot lead over defending NCAA champion Georgia into today's final 18 holes. Wake Forest struggled to a 42-over par 330 today, allowing Georgia to win the tournament by seven strokes ahead of Oklahoma State. Georgia Tech finished third and Wake tied Arizona State for fourth in the 18-team field.

Out of four ACC teams, Wake Forest finished second to only Georgia Tech.

It was a difficult day for all involved. Not one of the 90 participants in the tournament broke par today.

Wake Forest was led by senior Doug Manchester, whose 11th-place finish was a career best. Despite an 82 today, he finished with a 54-hole total of 221 (+5). Junior Sean Moore, who ballooned to an 87 today, and senior Kyle Reifers, who shot a team-low 80, both finished the tournament 9-over and tied for 26th. Sophomore Webb Simpson had an 82 today and finished 13-over, tied for 42nd. Sophomore Chris Martin shot an 86 and finished with a 28-over 244.

Moore entered today's round with a one-stroke lead and Manchester was in a group of golfers tied for second place.

Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin shot a 73 today and won the individual race by two strokes.

Isleworth Country Club, home to the PGA Tour's Tiger Woods, Mark O'Meara, John Cook and many others, will provide a stern test From the Tiger tees, Isleworth Country Club is the longest and toughest course in the state of Florida.

Wake Forest's next event comes Nov. 11-13 in the Collegiate Match Play Championship at Howie In The Hills, FL.
