Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest volleyball team only allowed Clemson eight points in the fourth game as the Demon Deacons demolished the Tigers, 3-1 (30-23, 30-22, 27-30, 30-8), Friday night in ACC volleyball action. Redshirt freshman Jessica Furlong led the charge with her second career double-double of 23 kills and 24 digs.

The win improves the Deacs to 12-9 overall and 5-7 in the conference. It also marks the first time since the 2001 season that Wake Forest has won four consecutive ACC games. Last week, the Demon Deacons took a pair of games from Florida State and Miami, in addition to defeating Boston College on the road the week before.

Against Clemson, the Deacs played strong in the first game, outhitting the Tigers, .405 to .098. It was relatively close between the two teams until the 21-19 mark, but Wake stormed ahead with a 12-1 run that didn't leave Clemson much room to catch up. Furlong finished the first with five kills and five digs, while senior Christy Williams had three of her four block assists in game one.

In the second game it was close until the nine all mark. From there, the Deacs jumped out with a 7-1 run that was highlighted by a block solo and a block assist from Williams. The Tigers gained a few points, but the Deacs were able to hold onto their lead and then extend it with another 7-1 run. Closing the game off with a kill from freshman Shannan Homan and then an attack error on the Tigers, the Deacs took the second game, 30-22.

Game three was a tough one for Wake Forest with Clemson taking their largest lead of the match at 19-14. Undeterred by the lead, the Deacs fought back and tied the score at 23 off four straight points. Knotting the score three more times, it wasn't until the 27 all mark that Clemson took two of the last three points and the game.

The fourth game was epic with the Deacs running out to a tremendous 12-3 lead. With Furlong at the line, Wake Forest then took 10 straight points and didn't look back. Only allowing the Tigers four points for the remainder of the match, the Deacs won by the largest single game margin so far this season in the ACC.

In addition to leading the team in kills, Furlong also led the team with the match high hitting percentage of .529 Junior Lauren Peterson was not far behind with a .465 attack percentage off 23 kills, 43 attacks and three errors. Defensivley Natasha Schefer and Klarysa Henry had a strong night with 23 digs and 10 digs, respectively.

As a team, the Deacs had 13 team blocks off 18 assists and four solo. Natalie Mullikin contributed four of the block assists, while Homan also added four.

The Demon Deacons will return to the court tomorrow night as they host Georgia Tech at 6 p.m.
