Women's Golf in Fifth at Lady Tar Heel

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team completed the first round of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational on Friday in fifth place. The Demon Deacons fired a 14-over par 302. The 54-hole event, hosted by North Carolina, is being contested at the Finley Golf Club. The par is 72 and yardage is 6,285 yards.
Duke stands in first place after a six-over par 294. Vanderbilt, Auburn and Virginia are tied for second at 12-over par 300. The Deacons are in fifth followed by NC State and Texas A&M tied at 17-over 305. Texas (19-over, 307), Ohio State (21-over, 309) and Tulsa (24-over, 312) round out the top-10.
Nannette Hill made three birdies and a bogey in her last five holes to shoot a one-under par 71. The freshman finished the day with five birdies. Hill stands in a tie for third, one stroke behind the leaders.
Fellow freshman Jean Chua fired a three-over par 75 for the Deacons and stands in a tie for 14th.
Junior Mandy Goins shot a five-over par 77 for Wake Forest. Junior Maggie Simons added a seven-over par 79 for the Deacs as well. Sophomore Laura Crawford struggled shooting an opening round 85, 13-over par.
Sophomore Jordan Craig playing as an individual carded a nine-over par 81.
Duke's Anna Grzebien and Virginia's Leah Wigger share the individual lead each shooting a two-under par 70. Hill is in a four-way tie for second with Texas' Julia Best, Texas A&M's Ashley Knoll and Auburn's Maria Martinez.
