Winston-Salem, N.C. - Redshirt freshman Jessica Furlong earned her third straight double-double and the match-high attack percentage of .474 to lead the Wake Forest volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-18, 30-27, 30-28) victory over Boston College, Friday night in Reynolds Gym.
The win improves the Demon Deacons to 15-10 overall and 8-8 in the ACC. Boston College drops to 7-19 overall and 2-15 in the conference.
Furlong earned her sixth double-double of the year with 20 kills and 11 digs. At the net, senior Christy Williams stood out with four block assists and three solo blocks. She also added seven kills.
Wake Forest took the lead early in the first game with three players hitting above .500. Opening with an 11-3 run, the Deacs didn't allow the Eagles to take more than two consecutive points until the 23-12 mark. Boston College then earned four in a row, but, it was too late and the Deacs finished game one by winning seven of the last 10 points.
In the second game Wake Forest went out to another early lead, but BC went on a five point run to bring the score within one at 10-9. Wake held onto control of the game with three straight points, but Boston College kept fighting and tied the score at 21 all. Two attacking errors by the Eagles and then a kill by Williams gave the Deacs the lead once again. Wake finished the game with a block by Williams and Shannan Homan.
Boston College jumped out to an early 5-0 lead that left Wake Forest trailing for the majority of game three. Knotting the score six times, it wasn't until the 27 all mark that a pair of kills from Mullikin and Furlong secured the lead. Playing for match-point three times, a kill by Furlong sealed the game.
As a team, Wake Forest earned 57 kills and hit .255 to Boston College's .172. Defensively, Natasha Schaefer had 19 of the team's 65 digs, while Erin Borhart added 12. Borhart also had 38 assists.
The Demon Deacons will return to the court Saturday night against Maryland. Game time in Reynolds Gym is 6 p.m
