Deacons Beat Tennessee In Match Play, 3-2

HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, FL - Wake Forest turned to its veterans again and came away with an impressive 3-2 victory over nationally-ranked Tennessee in the Collegiate Match Play Championship here Saturday.

The 11th-ranked Demon Deacons will face Coastal Carolina Sunday for fifth place in the 16-team event. Invitation to the elite tournament, held at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort, was by finish at the 2005 NCAA Championship.

Wake Forest seniors Kyle Reifers and Doug Manchester and junior Sean Moore all won their matches today, lifting the Deacons past the Volunteers. Moore won 6 and 5. Manchester won 4 and 3 and Reifers came out on top 3 and 1.

The Deacons rebounded from a 4-0-1 loss earlier in the day to Arizona, putting Wake Forest in the consolation bracket. Coastal Carolina beat Arizona State 3-2 to advance to the fifth-place game against Wake.

The Deacons beat Augusta State in Friday's opening round.

Georgia, the nation's No. 1-ranked team, and Georgia Tech are the only two remaining unbeaten teams and will play in Sunday's championship match.
