Women's Golf Tied For Fifth After Day One

San Juan, Puerto Rico - The Wake Forest women's golf team is in a tie for fifth place after day one of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Senior Christine Hallstrom leads all Deacons with a 77 and is the only member of the team among the top-20 after the first round of competition. The Deacons combined for a first round 312, just 13 strokes off team leader Auburn.
Hallstrom fired a front nine 36, followed by a 41 on the back half of the par 72, 6,033 yard course. At +5 on the day, Hallstrom is six strokes behind individual leader Sofie Andersson of California. Andersson is the only member of the field who shot under par for the day.
Ashley Hoagland and Mandy Goins are just behind Hallstrom, each shooting 78 today. Maggie Simons shot a 79, while Laura Crawford posted an 85.
Rounding out the top-five are Auburn, TCU, California, Florida and Georgia. Host school Purdue is tied for seventh place with Tulsa and East Tennessee State. Kent State and Southern California are tied at tenth, followed by Oklahoma, Texas and Penn State, respectively.
