Women's Golf Finishes Fourth At Lady Puerto Rico

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished fourth at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Wednesday. The Deacs shot a combined 293 on day three, their best performance since a 286 in the final round of the ACC/SEC challenge during the fall season.
Freshman Laura Crawford posted the second lowest individual score of the entire field during the final round, firing a 71 on the par 72, 6,033 yard course. It was the only below-par score by the Deacons during the tournament.
Crawford, who struggled on day one, improved her score by five shots on day two and shaved 14 strokes off round one's performance today, with a Deacon tournament best 71. It was Crawford's best round since consecutive scores of 70 in the opening two rounds of the ACC/SEC Challenge. She finished tied for 42nd overall in this week's event.
Ashley Hoagland, the team leader after two rounds, shot a 73 today, to finish with a 225 for the three day tournament. The score earned her a tie for ninth place overall, nine strokes off individual champion Diana Ramage of Auburn.
Christine Hallstrom shot her best round of the week on Wednesday. She carded a 74, which combined with her 77 and 80 from the first two days, tied her for 25th place overall, with a 231 shot total. It was Hallstrom's best finish since tying for 18th at the Franklin Street Partners and her best third round mark since her final round 70 of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
Mandy Goins fired rounds of 78, 75 and 75, good for a 19th place tie overall. Goins was one of two Deacons all of whose rounds counted towards team scoring during the tournament. Seventy-nine percent of her rounds counted during fall play.
Maggie Simons tied for 48th overall, after scores of 79, 78 and 81.
The Deacons were the only ACC team participating in the field of 14. Third-ranked Auburn captured the team title with a combined 888, 21 strokes better than runner-up and 49th-ranked TCU. Florida, ranked 16th nationally placed fourth, one shot behind TCU and two shots better and Wake Forest. The Deacons edged fifth-ranked Georgia by one stroke, as the Bulldogs rounds out the top-five.
The rest of the field finished as follows: 6. Tulsa 7. Cal-Berkeley 8. Southern Cal 9. Purdue 10. Kent State 11. Oklahoma 12. East Tennessee State 13. Texas 14. Penn State.
The Deacons return to action in the Sun Trust Lady Gator Invitational March 4-6. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Florida and played at the Gators' home course in Gainesville, Fla.
