Women's Golf Tied For Fifth At Liz Murphey

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest women's golf team is in a tie for fifth place after two rounds at the Liz Murphey Collegiate in Athens, Ga. The Deacons shot a combined 306 Saturday, which coupled with round one's 301, gives Wake Forest a stroke total of 607 heading into the third and final day.
Ashley Hoagland, who owned a share of the lead after an even 72 on day one, shot three over this afternoon and now finds herself in a tie for sixth place. Hoagland ranks second in the field in par four scoring (4.00) and third in birdies made (6).
Christine Hallstrom, in a tie for 21st after day one, moved into a tie for 19th, carding a 75 in round two. She shares the spot with Furman's Connor Atkinson. Hallstrom ranks fourth in par four scoring (4.15) and has recorded a field high 29 pars.
Maggie Simons fired rounds of 77 on consecutive days, good for a 31st place tie. Simons is in third place in par three scoring, shooting an even 3.00 in that category.
Freshman Laura Crawford, who was tied with teammate Hallstrom after round one, shot an 80 today, to slip to a 49th place tie overall. Crawford, however, stands in third place in par five scoring, averaging 4.75 strokes per hole.
Mandy Goins shaved four strokes off Friday performance for a second round 79. Her 162 stroke total put her in a tie for 74th place overall.
Georgia, the defending champions and tournament host, remained atop the field, shooting a combined 294 today, the lowest of the second round scores. The Bulldogs combined 592 keeps them seven strokes ahead of second place Tulane. Louisiana State (600), Auburn (601), Tennessee (607) and Wake Forest (607) round out the top five.
Tulane's Lindsay Hulwick leads the pack after rounds of 73 and 72. She is followed closely behind by Auburn's Diana Ramage, LSU's Rebecca Kuhn, Arkansas' Stacy Lewis and Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza, all of whom share second place with a two day total of 146.
Round three begins Sunday morning. Results will be posted at WakeForestSports.com upon completion of the round.
