Women's Golf Finished Sixth At Liz Murphey

Winston-Salem, NC - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished sixth at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on Sunday. It marked the Deacon's seventh consecutive top-10 finish this season. Senior Ashley Hoagland led the Deacs with a third place finish.
Hoagland, who shared the lead after day one, carded a 74 on the third and final day, to finish third overall. She was joined in that position by Kent State's Gabby Wedding, Tulane's Lindsay Hulwick and the fifth-ranked player in the country, Auburn's Diana Ramage. The only Deacon to finish in the top-20 this weekend, Hoagland owns six other top-20 performances this season, including five in the top-10.
Maggie Simons fired rounds of 77 on the first two days, but improved to a 75 on Sunday. She finished with a combined 229, good for a 26th place tie and just eleven strokes off the tournament winner.
Senior Christine Hallstrom finished in a tie for 35th place, after rounds of 76, 75 and 80. Freshman Laura Crawford shot 76, 80 and 79 to finish in a tie for 49th overall. Mandy Goins tied for 59th, with a much improved third round score of 75. She shot an 83 and 79 on the first two days, respectively.
Georgia captured the team and individual titles at the 33rd annual Liz Murphey. Bulldog junior Kelly Froelich offered rounds of 74, 73 and 71 on the par 72, 6,228 yard University of Georgia golf course to pocket the win. Georgia shot a combined 892 for the win.
Louisiana State finished second, shooting 905. Auburn and Tulane tied for third place, each carding 908. Tennessee finished one stroke behind for fifth place (909). The Deacons were just a stroke shy of a top-five finish, shooting a combined 910 for the tournament.
The remaining 12 teams finished as follows: 7. Mississippi State (919) 8. Ohio State (921) 8. Michigan State (921) 10. Furman (922) 11. Arkansas (925) 12. Kent State (931) 13. Mississippi (943) 14. South Carolina (945) 15. Kentucky (954) 16. East Carolina (955) 17. Alabama (956) 18. Florida State (963).
The Deacons return to action next weekend, when they will co-host the Bryan National Collegiate with the University of North Carolina - Greensboro. Tee-offs in Greensboro begin April 1 at 8:30 a.m.
