Winston-Salem, N.C. - After dropping all three of their doubles matches to the Tigers, the Wake Forest men's tennis came back strong in singles play in order to defeat Clemson. The No. 30 Deacs handed No. 19 Clemson their first loss in ACC play, 5-2. Wake Forest improves their record to 12-4 (4-2 ACC), while Clemson falls to 21-5 on the year (3-1 ACC).

As the Deacs' top-seeded singles player, No. 82 Todd Paul pulled an upset over nationally ranked No. 18 Nathan Thompson of Clemson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. At the number five singles spot, Marius Adamski defeated Brett Twente, 6-0, 6-4. The doubles team of Paul and Adamski fell to the Tiger's Sander Koning and Clement Reix, 8-3.

At the number one doubles spot, Wake's Andrew Hamar and Brett Ross lost to Thompson and Ryan Young, 8-4. No. 79 Hamar took out Young in singles play, 6-0, 6-4. As the Deacs' third-seeded singles player, Ross got the win over Reix in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Derrick Spice clinched a singles victory for Wake Forest over Koning, 6-2, 7-5. Also in singles play, Wake's Joe Bates fell to Mike Gee, 6-2, 6-1. The doubles duo of Spice and Bates were defeated by Clemson's Twente and Ian Keeler, 8-5.

Wake Forest will travel to Atlanta, Ga., on Sunday, April 3, to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
