Deacons Remain In Lead At Lady Gator

Winston-Salem, NC - Christine Hallstrom remains in a tie for first place after two rounds in the Lady Gator Invitational. The senior from Sodertalje, Sweden leads the 18th-ranked Demon Deacons, who currently stand atop the leader board in Gainesville.
Hallstrom who fired a 71 yesterday to tie with teammate Ashley Hoagland for the lead, offered a 74 today, to remain in a tie for first place. Myrte Eikenaar of Purdue joins Hallstrom for the lead after two rounds. In round one, Hallstrom putted one birdie, but recorded two birdies on day two.
Ashley Hoagland, who yesterday shared the lead with Hallstrom, slipped four strokes on day two. Seven bogies and two birdies left her with a second round 75, but she remains in a tie for third place, only one stroke off the leaders.
Mandy Goins, whose first round 78 earned her a tie for 42nd place, shaved eight strokes for a second round 71, just one over par and the best score carded by the field today. She finds herself in a tie for seventh place heading into the final round on Sunday. Goins shot four bogies and two doubles yesterday, but improved considerably on day two, with three birdies and only four bogies. Seventy-one is her best mark this season.
Maggie Simons' first round 74 earned her a tie for 10th place, but a second round 80 moves her into a tie for 35th place overall.
Laura Crawford improved six strokes today, for a second round 77 and a tie for 61st place overall. So far this spring, Crawford has brought her best game to day three. In the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, she fired rounds of 85 and 80 in the first two days, but a 71 on the final day.
The Deacons head into the final round on Sunday with a six shot lead. Third-ranked Auburn stands in second place, after leading the field today with a combined +13. Wake Forest, 17 over today, is 31 over for the tournament. The Deacons have yet to win a team or individual title this season, but lead in both categories after two rounds in Gainesville.
