Knoxville, Tenn. - Chris Catton, Brian Smith and Sean Stevens shaved seconds off their season best times to set personal bests during the Deacons first day of the Sea Ray Relays at the Tom Black Track in Knoxville, Tenn.
Catton, a sophomore out of Grand Blanc, Mich., set the Deacon season best and established a new personal record in the 800 meter race on Friday. His 1:50.66 was a hair shy of the regional qualifying mark (1:50.00), but stands as the third best time recorded in the ACC this season.
Smith, who has struggled during his past two meets, hustled to a new personal best in the 1,500 meter race with his 3:54.86. It was the second best mark by a Deacon this year and earned him a 16th place finish on the track today.
Stevens also crushed his previous best in the 1,500 meter, running a 3:55.65 in the event Friday afternoon. The Louisville, Tenn., native was a few seconds away from a regional qualifying mark in the 1,500 meter event, but has already earned such a mark in the 5,000 meter run this season.
The Deacons return to action at the University of Tennessee on Saturday morning. Wake Forest track and field athletes will also be competing at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Live results for that meet are available at www.flashresults.com. Results for both meets will be posted at the conclusion of the day on www.WakeForestSports.com.
