Track and Field Finishes ACC Championship

Tallahassee, Fla. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track teams wrapped up competition at the 2005 ACC Track and Field Championship on Saturday. The men finished eighth and the women tenth, scoring 46 and 40 points, respectively.
Brad Wharton started the men off right on their highest scoring afternoon of the three day championship. Wharton finished fourth in the 1500 meter run, with his season best 3:51.04. He earned five points for the men's team.
Mike Loyd finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles, running a 14.48 and earning four points. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native finished fifth in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 21.49. Loyd was the second leg of the men's 4x100 relay team, which claimed third place with a time of 40.73. The team of Oderah Nwaeze, Loyd, Willie Idlette and Michael Bingham fell just shy of the 40.66 regional qualifying time. Loyd ran the third leg of the 4x400 relay team, which finished seventh overall with a time of 3:14.24.
Sophomore Chris Catton finished fourth in the 800 meter run, earning five points with his 1:51.16. He also anchored the 4x400 relay team of Bingham, Idlette and Loyd.
Sean Stevens finished fourth in the 5,000 meter run, earning five points with his time of 14:24.00.
Catherine Muehleib crushed a personal best in the discus throw, launching a 134-04.00.
Senior Annie Bersagel, who captured the 10k title on Thursday evening, finished second in the 5k on Sunday. She ran a 16:32.77, finishing two spots ahead of freshman Caitlin Chrisman. The duo combined for 13 points in that event.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Diane Anderson, Melissa Council, Molly Kennedy and Lauren Henn finished eighth with a season best 3:50.52.
The men finished the championship weekend with a total of 46 points, their most since 2002 when the Deacons totaled 63.
The women finished tenth with 40 points.
Miami claimed the women's team title and Florida State the men's.
