
Deacs Have a Strong Showing at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Demon Deacons brought home 11 top-five finishes and two event titles in the Wake Forest Invitational at the JDL Fast Track Saturday.
In a meet that consisted of over 30 teams, 24 student-athletes competed in 15 events and finished the day with 16 top-10 finishes.
On the men's side, Charlie Ionata and Kyle Johnson went one-two in the weight throw. Ionata had a best throw of 19.53m (64' 1") for first place while Johnson threw a personal best of 18.39m (55' 8.25") for second. Also in the field, Max Adams placed second in the shot put with a throw of 15.19m (49' 10").
The men's 4x400m consisting of Bobby Jacowleff, Nick Beglane, Kaleb Bryant and Dakota Greenwalt finished second in their heat with a time of 3:26.15, which was good for third place overall.
Also on the track, Peter Millsaps and Alex Giacco placed fifth and 10th in the mile. Millsaps' time of 4:22.85 is a new personal record, replacing a mark of 4:33.33 set early last season. Jacowleff and Beglane placed 24th and 27th in the 400m dash while Nick Raefski, Alex Turner and Jack McGowan placed sixth, 12th and 16th in the 3000m. Raefski finished with a time of 8:56.19, smashing his previous mark of 9:17.60 set at the UNCG Early Bird Duals this season.
On the women's side, Alexandria Florent brought home a title in the high jump after clearing the 1.70m bar. Alva Hicks finished second in the weight throw with a best throw of 17.97m (58' 11.5"). Tesia Kempski finished third in the pole vault after clearing the 3.60m (11' 9.75") height while Madison Bragg finished fourth with a height of 3.45m (11' 3.75"). Rounding out the field, Emily Campbell finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.28 (43' 7") while Casidy Callahan finished 10th on a 12.59m (41' 3.75") throw.
On the track, Hunter Roberts placed fourth in the 60m Hurdles finals with a time of 8.74. Roberts later finished second in her 60m Dash heat with a time of 7.97, good for 14th overall.
The 4x400m consisting of Maya Hinton, Sarah Johnson, Madeline Ward and Emma Gallagher finished fourth with a time of 4:04.69. Each athlete also competed in the open 400m with Johnson placing 11th, Gallagher in 15th, Hinton in 22nd with an indoor personal best time of 1:01.65 and Ward in 27th.
The Demon Deacons return to action Jan. 27 and 28 at the Darius Dixon Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. and the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
