Browns Summit, NC - Duke University fought through several heavy downpours on Saturday to lengthen its lead after two rounds at the Bryan National Collegiate held at Bryan Park Golf Club.
Playing with just four players in the four-of-five scoring tournament, Duke has three golfers among the top five individually through the first two rounds. With a team score of 577, the four-time defending tournament champion Blue Devils hold a seven-shot lead over Tennessee entering Sunday's final round. The Lady Volunteers are five shots in front of third-place Georgia and 11 ahead of fourth-place Florida.
Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza sits atop the individual leaderboard after 36 holes. She fired a one-under par 71 to take a one-shot lead into the final round. She carded two birdies on each nine to off-set three bogies.
Duke's Jennifer Pandolfi and Georgia's Natalia Nicholls are tied for second, one shot behind Retamoza. Pandolfi entered Saturday's action tied for 10th, but shot a two-under 70 to record the low-round of the day. She was one of just three golfers to shoot under par on Saturday, recording four birdies, three on the front nine, to off-set a pair of bogies.
Nicholls shot an even-par 72, carding three birdies and three bogies on the afternoon.
Individual defending champion Elizabeth Janangelo sits in a tie for fourth place. The first-round leader, Janangelo shot a 76 on Saturday to fall into a tie with teammate Brittany Lang.
Making history, Furman's Jenny Suh recorded a hole-in-one on the 14th hole, the first ace on No. 14 by a female in course history. It was also just the second ace in the tournament's eight-year history. For the day, Suh finished with a two-over 74 and enters Sunday's final round tied for ninth place. As a team, the Lady Paladins are in seventh place.
The Lady Volunteers and Blue Devils shared the best team round of the day, Tennessee carded a team score of 291 for the second straight day, which was equaled by Duke after its first-round record 284 yesterday.
