Wake Forest Women's Tennis Upsets #12 Duke

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The #36 Wake Forest women's tennis team won five singles matches in addition to the doubles point, handing #12 Duke its first away ACC tennis loss in 14 years, Wednesday afternoon in Leighton Tennis Stadium.
The win marks the seventh victory over a ranked opponent and improves Wake Forest to 10-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference, while the loss drops the Blue Devils to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Wake opened up strong in doubles, winning the point by a margin of 2-1. The duo of #15 Karin Coetzee and Alex Hirsch started things off defeating Kristin Argill and Tory Zawacki, 8-2,in the No. 1 position. Danielle Schwartz and Blakley Offutt followed suit in a close 9-7 match in the third position.
In singles, Wake swept the top four spots, including a three set match at number two by #66 Ashlee Davis. Dropping the first set, 5-7, Davis came back to claim her 16th victory of the year, 6-1 and 10-8 in the tie-breaker. Wake also took home another victory in the No. 6 position with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4 (10-3) win by Jenna Loeb.
The Demon Deacons will next travel to Blacksburg, Va., where they will face Virginia Tech at noon.
