
Wake Forest Women's Tennis Downs Virginia Tech

Blacksburg, V.A. - Wake Forest Senior Karin Coetzee won her eighth straight singles match on Saturday as the 36th ranked Demon Deacons downed Virginia Tech 7-0. Wake Forest improved to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in the conference, while the Hokies fell to 7-14 overall and 0-9 in ACC contests for the season.
Wake Forest swept the doubles competition to get an early lead in the match. At number one doubles, Coetzee and Alex Hirsch, ranked 17th nationally, defeated Ashley James and Kate Harrington of Virginia Tech 8-1. At the number two position, Ashlee Davis and Katie Martzolf knocked off Anat Elazari and Bethan James 8-5. Finally, at number three doubles, Danielle Schwartz and Blakely Offutt defeated Julia Facchina and Meredith Homes 8-0.
The Demon Deacons continued their domination after earning the doubles point by winning all six singles spots. Coetzee had an easy win at number one by beating Elazari 6-3, 6-1, while at number two singles, Davis defeated Ashley James 6-4, 6-3. At number three, Hirsch had a quick win over Bethan James 6-1, 6-1. Schwartz was strong at number four singles defeating Harrington 6-3, 6-0, while Jenna Loeb won at the number five position over Holmes 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Alisha Talbot got the start at number six singles and defeated Facchina of Virginia Tech 6-2, 6-3.
The Demon Deacons return to action next Saturday, when they travel to Virginia to play the Cavaliers in Charlottesville at 10:00am.
