Winston-Salem, N.C. - Head coach Jennifer Averill, who guided the Wake Forest women's field hockey team to a third consecutive national championship in 2004, was named National Field Hockey Coach of the Year by the United States Olympic Committee, as announced by the organization Wednesday.

Averill, who enters her 14th season at the helm of the Wake Forest program, has led the Demon Deacons to their first six NCAA Tournament appearances since field hockey began at Wake in 1971, including national championship crowns in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

This past season, Wake Forest went 20-3 overall and earned a wealth of individual honors to match the team accomplishments. Senior Kelly Dostal was named the National Field Hockey Player of the Year, while four others were honored with All-South Region honors.
