Winston-Salem, N.C. - Former field hockey player Emily Ruth returns to Wake Forest to join the Demon Deacons as an assistant coach of the three-time national championship squad after a one-year stint as an assistant at Stanford.
"We are thrilled to have Emily back at Wake Forest," said head coach Jennifer Averill. "She served as an instrumental part of the team while she was an student-athlete at Wake Forest and has an incredible work ethic and passion for the game. I am positive Emily will make a great impact on the team in the coming year."
While at Stanford, Ruth helped lead the Cardinals to a 8-12 overall record and a third place finish in the NorPac. In addition, she helped coach two All-NorPac players, including Jessica Zutz, the 2004 NorPac Rookie of the Year.
In her time on the field for the Deacs, Ruth helped lead the team to two consecutive national championships, in addition to final four appearances in each of her four seasons. Scoring nine goals in her junior campaign and five in her senior year, Ruth served an active roll as a member of the Deacon offense.
Ruth graduated from Wake Forest in May of 2004, with a Bachelor's degree in Communications.
