Lindsay Neuberger Qualifies For NCAA Track and Field Championship

Randall's Island, NY - Wake Forest junior Lindsay Neuberger qualified for the 2005 NCAA Track and Field Championship with her fifth place finish in the shot put today at the NCAA East Regional in Randall's Island, N.Y. Neuberger was the only Deacon to qualify during this weekend's regional meet.
Athletes who placed in the top-five of their respective events at the regional meet automatically advanced to the NCAA Championship. Neuberger threw the shot put 50-06, earning her a fifth place spot in the event and the only four points for the Deacons all weekend.
Mike Loyd ran the 110 meter hurdles in 14.36, while Chris Catton finished the 800 meter race in 1:54.74. Sean Stevens ran a 14:30.36 5k and Brad Wharton placed 20th in the 1500 meter race with a 3:51.79 performance. The men's 4x100 meter relay team finished 12th with their time of 40.66.
Cassy Richards leapt 18-10.50 in the long jump, to finish 18th overall. Michelle Sikes finished 19th in the 3k steeplechase, finishing in 10:45.48. Caitlin Chrisman finished 14th in the 5k with a time of 16:31.22, while Annie Bersagel finished 20th in that event, with her 16:43.10.
Bersagel automatically qualified for the 10k earlier this season and will be traveling with Neuberger to Sacramento, Calif., June 8-11. Michael Bingham, the 2005 ACC decathlon champion, awaits an at-large bid to the Championship for that event. The at-large selections will be announced Tuesday, May 31 at 3:00 p.m.
