Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest field hockey team has been tabbed the No. 1 team in the nation in the first poll of the year, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and womensfieldhockey.com.
The three-time defending national champions opened the 2005 campaign with four consecutive victories, including a 2-1 win over No. 4 Duke this past weekend. She was also named the womensfieldhockey.com Player of the Week.
Wake Forest received 669 points and 26 first place votes in the NFHCA poll, while Maryland was second with 647 points and five first place votes. Fellow ACC members North Carolina and Duke rounded out the top of the rankings in third and fourth, respectively.
